Summary: Recently, Germany has been flooded with stories of neglect, abuse, and even murder of children. This is alarming in a country that is rapidly aging and one in which the birthrate is decreasing. This has prompted conversation about how Germany cares for its children as well as the role that the government should play in protecting them. The worsening situation for children was connected to the labor-market reforms which have reduced the amount of time that people could receive unemployment benefits.
